LLM Training Data Services: people during training course

What our LLM training data work includes

Aranv builds LLM training data for companies preparing to train a model: reviewed instruction and answer pairs for a large language model (LLM), drawn from your tickets, documents and records, with gold test sets kept out of training, personal details masked and each dataset version traceable.

Every train your own AI model project needs this data step, which usually feeds LLM fine-tuning or a larger training run. It differs from AI data preparation, which covers general cleanup and chunking for retrieval and machine learning. The output here is a set made for training: pairs, labels and test cases. Your data is used for your model.

Not every record should become training data. Facts that change go to retrieval, and we score prompts plus retrieval on your gold set before training begins. If a trained model fails to beat that score, the simpler setup remains and we say so plainly. The gold set stays useful for testing either way.

From company records to a dataset

Records in, reviewed dataset out

  1. 01 Confirm rights and consent We check contracts, notices and licenses on each data source before any extraction.
  2. 02 Draft pairs from records Tickets and documents become instruction and answer pairs in the format training expects.
  3. 03 Experts review and correct Your subject experts approve, fix or reject examples using a written guide.
  4. 04 Split, version, release Gold test cases stay apart from training, and each release gets a version number.

Training data teaches behavior. Prices, policies and other facts that change belong in a search index instead.

What a training dataset is made of

The dataset is a product of its own, and its parts need different handling.

  • Instruction dataset creation: man in blue and white pinstripe long sleeves shirt using a computer

    Instruction dataset creation

Support replies, approved reports and past decisions rewritten as a clear request and the correct response, so the model learns the pattern and not the ticket thread.

  • Gold test sets: man in black blazer having a presentation

    Gold test sets

Real cases your experts answer by hand, locked away from training, so later scores measure how the model handles new work and not its memory.

  • Synthetic training data: man sitting with magnifying glass over papers

    Synthetic training data

Generated examples for rare situations, such as an unusual refund or a seldom-used form. Each one is reviewed, and synthetic cases never serve as the only test.

  • Personal data masking: persons holding printer papers with graphs

    Personal data masking

Names, account numbers and similar details in source records are replaced with placeholders, and a person samples the output because automated masking can miss things.

Expert review your team can run: man giving a presentation to a group of people

Expert review your team can run

A dataset is only as dependable as the people who approve it. Your subject experts do the reviewing because they know the correct answer. We write the guide they follow, track where two reviewers disagree and bring those cases back to them for a ruling.

What we do

  • Review guide with worked examples
  • Disagreement tracking between reviewers
  • Rulings added back into the guide
  • Sign-off on each release

Rights, lineage and dataset versions

Before a record becomes an example, someone must confirm you may use it for training. Customer contracts, employee notices and third-party licenses can all limit that. We record where each example came from, so you can trace it back and leave a source out of the next version.

What we do

  • Register of sources and permissions
  • Lineage from example to source record
  • Version numbers with change notes
  • Training and test split records
  • Base-model license check alongside

How we approach a project

We normally adapt open-weight base weights and do not train from zero, so the dataset teaches behavior and not the whole language. Base-model licenses still apply to the result, and we check them before the data work. Our guides on sizing a training dataset and how to prepare data for AI help you judge what you hold.

The gold set goes on to LLM evaluation, where it scores each candidate model. To look at your own records together, book a 30-minute conversation.

How we work

  • Your experts approve the gold cases
  • Test sets never enter training
  • Each example traces to its source

How a training dataset gets built

  • Step 1: Audit sources and rights

    Audit sources and rights

We list each candidate source, who can approve its use and what contracts or notices say about training.

  • Step 2: Pilot a small batch

    Pilot a small batch

A first batch of pairs tests the format and the review guide before your experts spend serious time.

  • Step 3: Review in rounds

    Review in rounds

Experts correct each batch, disputed cases get a ruling, and the guide grows with every decision.

  • Step 4: Freeze and hand over

    Freeze and hand over

The release is split, versioned and documented, then a trial training run shows what is still missing.

Why Aranv for training data

Test sets before training sets

We build the gold set first, so nobody is tempted to shape the test around what the model already learned.

Review time used carefully

Your experts are busy. We pilot a small batch and fix the guide before asking them for longer sessions, so corrections are not repeated.

Honest about synthetic examples

Generated cases help with rare situations but can drift from how customers really write. We label them, review them and keep real cases in every test.

Rights recorded in writing

We ask who approved each source for training and record the answer. Your counsel decides the legal questions, and our register gives them what they need.

LLM Training Data Services FAQs

  • What does fine-tuning dataset preparation involve?

It means turning past work into reviewed examples in the format the training tool expects. We choose sources, draft pairs, mask personal details, have your experts correct them, remove contradictions and set a test set aside.

  • Can we use customer tickets to train a model?

Sometimes, and it depends on what your contracts, privacy notices and applicable law allow. We ask which sources are cleared before extraction, and your counsel makes the final call. Masking details helps but does not settle the question by itself. This is general information, not legal advice.

  • How many reviewed examples will we need?

There is no fixed number. A narrow, consistent task needs fewer than a broad one with many exceptions. We review a first batch, run a trial and see whether more examples move the score.

  • Who reviews the training examples?

Your subject experts do, because they know what a correct answer looks like in your business. We prepare the batches, write the review guide and track disagreements. We ask for a named person per topic and regular time from each.

  • How is this different from preparing documents for RAG?

RAG preparation cleans and chunks documents so a search index can find them. Training data is a set of worked examples that teach behavior, with correct answers attached and a held-out test. Some systems need both, with different reviewers and checks.

  • Who owns the training dataset?

That belongs in the contract, written before work starts. We recommend terms under which the training data, adapters, weights, code and test sets pass to you after the work is paid for. Any model trained on them remains subject to its base model’s license.
