What an Odoo migration covers
Aranv provides Odoo migration services for businesses on an older Odoo version, on QuickBooks or on spreadsheets. We upgrade databases and custom modules, move accounting and stock data into Odoo, switch Community to Enterprise and test everything on a copy first.
Each major Odoo release gets three years of standard support, after which security updates stop. Odoo 17.0 reached that point in September 2026, according to Odoo’s support table. You can upgrade from any version straight to a supported major version, so a database does not need to step through every release.
An Odoo version upgrade has two halves. Odoo’s upgrade service converts the standard data, but custom modules must be rewritten for the new version by whoever maintains them, and the database cannot be upgraded until they are ready. We do both in parallel, then test on the neutralized copy Odoo returns, where scheduled actions and outgoing email are switched off.
How an Odoo migration is run
Copy, test, rehearse, switch
- 01 List what has to move Data, custom modules, integrations and reports, each with an owner on your side.
- 02 Upgrade a test copy Odoo’s upgrade platform returns an upgraded copy, or we import data into a fresh database.
- 03 Test real business flows Staff buy, sell, ship and invoice in the copy and report any differences.
- 04 Rehearse, then switch A full rehearsal the day before, then the production move in a quiet window.
Your production database stays untouched until the tested copy has been signed off.
Migrations we handle
Each kind of migration carries its own risks. These are the four we are asked about most.
Odoo version upgrade
Databases on older releases moved to a supported major version, with custom modules rewritten to match.
QuickBooks to Odoo migration
Customers, vendors, products, chart of accounts, open invoices and opening balances moved and reconciled.
Spreadsheets to Odoo
Stock lists, price sheets and order logs cleaned, de-duplicated and imported as proper records.
Odoo Community to Enterprise
Community databases on your own servers switched to Enterprise, or moved to Odoo.sh, with modules checked first.
Custom module porting and testing
Custom modules are usually the slowest part of an upgrade. We read each one, compare it with what the target release now does as standard, and port only the code you still need. Each ported module gets tests that run against the upgraded copy.
What we do
- Module inventory with an owner each
- Retire modules standard Odoo now covers
- Code ported to the target version
- Automated tests per module
- Third-party module compatibility check
AI help with data cleanup and mapping
Old data rarely fits the new structure. We can use a language model to suggest which duplicate customers and vendors are the same company, map old product categories to new ones and flag records with missing fields. Your team approves every suggestion before import.
What we do
- Duplicate contact match suggestions
- Old-to-new category mapping
- Missing field reports before import
- Approval queue for each change
- AI features planned after go-live
How we approach a project
A QuickBooks to Odoo migration sits outside that service, because Odoo’s upgrades only cover Odoo databases. We export customers, vendors, products, the chart of accounts and open invoices and bills, then load them with Odoo’s spreadsheet import, which checks each file before saving. Opening balances are entered at an agreed cut-off date and reconciled against your final QuickBooks reports.
Moving from Odoo Community to Enterprise is also separate from a version upgrade. On your own servers it means backing up the Community database, installing the Enterprise modules on top and entering your subscription code. Moving to Odoo.sh changes the host as well. We check custom and third-party modules for compatibility first.
Migration is usually one step in a wider plan. See Odoo implementation for new apps, Odoo customization and integration for modules and connectors, and our Odoo development overview.
How we work
- Test copies before production
- Custom modules upgraded alongside data
- Balances reconciled before sign-off
Our Process
-
Migration audit
We list installed apps, custom and third-party modules, integrations, data volumes and the reports finance relies on.
-
First test migration
An upgraded or imported copy is built, and we fix module errors and data gaps until it runs cleanly.
-
User testing and reconciliation
Key users run daily flows in the copy while finance compares balances, open items and stock values with the old system.
-
Cutover window
We freeze changes, run the rehearsed steps on production, check the numbers again and hand the new database to your team.
Why Aranv for Odoo migration
Live database left alone
Staff keep working in the current system while we test. Production changes only after key users and finance approve the upgraded copy.
Finance checks the numbers
Trial balance, open invoices, open bills and stock values are compared with the old system, and the cutover waits until they agree.
Modules and data, one team
The developers porting your custom modules also run the data tests, so a broken field or view is traced to its cause quickly.
A cutover that was rehearsed
We run the full switch on a copy first, time each step and write down the order, so the production move follows a tested script.

Odoo migration FAQs
-
Which Odoo versions are still supported?
As of November 2026, Odoo 18.0, 19.0 and 20.0 are in standard support. Odoo 17.0 left standard support in September 2026, and older versions ended before that. Extended support costs extra and is offered on Odoo.sh and on-premise only.
-
Can we skip versions when upgrading Odoo?
Yes. Odoo allows an upgrade from any version to a major version still in standard support, or one that left it less than six months ago. Bigger jumps mean more changes to custom modules and more testing, so we plan the effort accordingly.
-
How long does an Odoo migration take?
Most of the time goes into custom modules and testing, not the data conversion itself. A standard database with few customizations moves much faster than one with many custom modules and integrations. We give a schedule after the audit.
-
Will we lose data moving from QuickBooks to Odoo?
Not if the cut-off is planned. Master data and open items move in full, and older history comes across as summaries or archived reports unless you need every past transaction in Odoo. Your finance lead signs off the balances before go-live.
-
Do our custom modules work after an upgrade?
Not automatically. Odoo’s models and views change between versions, so each custom module needs updating and testing for the target version. We review the code first and tell you which modules can be retired because standard Odoo now covers them.
-
Is Odoo Online upgraded automatically?
Yes, eventually. Odoo sends a notice a few weeks before a mandatory upgrade and runs it itself if you take no action by the due date. We request a test copy before then and check your workflows, so changes do not surprise your staff.
