What a RAG development project needs
Aranv provides RAG development services for business knowledge search. Retrieval-augmented generation connects an AI assistant to approved documents so your team can review answers alongside their sources.
Useful knowledge search starts with the source collection. Identify which policies, guides, support material, or operating documents belong in the pilot. Review ownership, file structure, duplication, permissions, and how often the material changes before choosing an approach to retrieval-augmented generation.
A RAG scope can include document preparation, passage retrieval, source references, permission checks, and answer evaluation. Use a set of real business questions to check whether the right material is retrieved and whether the answer accurately reflects it. Include questions with missing, conflicting, or outdated information.
How retrieval-augmented generation can work
From business knowledge to a sourced answer
- 01 Approved sources Use the documents your team may access.
- 02 Relevant passages Find material related to the question.
- 03 An answer is drafted Use the retrieved context to prepare a response.
- 04 Sources are shown Let people check the material behind the answer.
Answers depend on source quality. Missing information should be made clear.
Answers grounded in your business material
RAG retrieves relevant source material and provides it to a language model when answering a question. It can make knowledge easier to use, but answer quality still needs testing and review.
-
Support knowledge search
Help support teams locate relevant product or service information and prepare a response with source references. Route questions outside the available knowledge to a person.
-
Role-aware access
Plan how the assistant should respect existing permissions and document ownership. A user should not gain access to restricted material simply by asking the assistant a question.
-
Internal knowledge assistants
Explore answers across policies, process documents, and operating guides. Keep the scope clear so employees understand which material is included and where to verify a response.
-
Document discovery
Find the passages that matter across a defined set of business documents. Review how document structure, terminology, and updates affect retrieval quality.
How we approach a project
Agree on who updates the sources and how changes will be checked. Define when the assistant should say it cannot find enough information and hand the request to a person. A knowledge assistant can connect to an existing product through LLM integration services, or support a broader AI agent workflow.
Prepare a source inventory with the document types, owners, audiences, and update frequency. Describe the questions employees or support teams ask most often and which questions must stay out of scope. A small, well-defined collection is easier to evaluate than an unbounded archive with unclear permissions.
Project effort depends on document preparation, retrieval quality, access rules, and the work needed to keep knowledge current. Discuss these dependencies before requesting a detailed estimate. Start with an agreed user group and question set, review the results, and decide what additional sources or capabilities would justify a later phase.
How we work
- Start with a business problem
- Test representative tasks
- Plan human review
Our Process
-
Inventory and scope the sources
Identify document owners, access requirements, update frequency, and the questions the assistant should be able to answer.
-
Build retrieval and answer behavior
Prepare the agreed content, retrieve relevant passages, and define how the assistant cites sources or responds when evidence is insufficient.
-
Evaluate representative questions
Test answer support, retrieval relevance, source coverage, restricted content, conflicting information, and questions with no answer in the source set.
-
Plan maintenance
Agree on refresh behavior, content ownership, review procedures, and a way for users to flag weak or outdated answers.

RAG development and knowledge-search FAQs
-
Does RAG eliminate incorrect answers?
No. Retrieval and generation can both fail. A pilot should test whether answers are supported by the cited material and define what happens when evidence is weak or missing.
-
What types of information can we include?
We start with approved sources that fit the project scope. Documents, knowledge articles, and other business content need appropriate access, usable structure, and an agreed update process.
-
Do we need to train a new AI model?
RAG is a way to provide relevant information at answer time. A project may use an existing model; the right approach depends on the questions, data, access needs, and evaluation results.
-
How should business knowledge stay current?
Assign an owner to each source collection and agree on a refresh process. When documents change, check both retrieval and the answers produced from them. Permissions, deleted material, conflicting versions, and unanswered questions should be part of the maintenance plan.
