Nonprofit Software Development

One gift, followed all the way

Aranv brand pattern

What nonprofit software development covers

Aranv provides nonprofit software development for charities, foundations, associations and community organizations: donor management software, online giving and event pages, a volunteer app, program and outcome tracking, grant reporting, and AI that drafts thank-you letters and cleans duplicate donor records for staff to review.

Many nonprofits already pay for a donor database and an accounting package that tracks funds. Our work usually starts where those tools stop: a volunteer app, a program tracker, a giving page in your own brand, or a sync so each gift posts to accounting once. Organizations that need constituent records shaped around their own programs can look at custom CRM development.

Receipts follow IRS rules. Gifts of $250 or more call for a written acknowledgment from your organization, with the cash amount and a note on whether anything was given in return. We generate those letters from the gift record, including a good-faith value for event benefits, and your finance lead approves each template. Recurring and event payments run through our payment gateway integration work.

From a gift to a report the board can read

One gift, followed all the way

  1. 01 Donor gives online The gift, campaign and any event benefit are recorded against one donor profile.
  2. 02 Receipt goes out An acknowledgment with the amount and benefit value is generated from that record.
  3. 03 Funds are tracked Restricted gifts are tied to the program or grant they must pay for.
  4. 04 Results are reported Program outcomes and spending roll up into funder and board reports.

Where your donor database and accounting package already work, we connect to them rather than replace them.

Donor management software and nonprofit apps

Small development and program teams carry a lot of manual work. These projects take the retyping and chasing off their plates.

Volunteers sign up for shifts, check in by phone and log hours, while coordinators see gaps in the schedule before the day begins.

Case notes, services delivered and outcomes recorded per participant, then rolled up into the reports funders and boards ask for.

Grants, restricted funds and reporting

Funders want to know how restricted money was spent and what it achieved. We build grant trackers with deadlines and deliverables, link program data to each award and produce reports that finance and program staff both trust, ready for the annual audit and the Form 990.

What we do

  • Grant pipeline and deadlines
  • Restricted fund tracking
  • Funder report templates
  • Board dashboards
  • Exports to fund accounting

AI for small development teams

Lean teams lose hours to letters and reports. We build assistants that draft thank-you letters, prepare grant narrative sections from your past proposals and summarize program notes, plus duplicate detection across donor records. Staff edit and send everything, and donor data stays out of public chat tools.

What we do

  • Thank-you letter drafts
  • Grant sections from past proposals
  • Duplicate donor detection
  • Program note summaries
  • First drafts of board updates

How we approach a project

Our wider team built Project 05 on our case studies page: a social prescribing platform in UK community health that refers people to local well-being services and keeps information from several service systems in step. Referral and outcome tools for community programs draw on the same kind of work.

How we work

  • Clean donor data before new features
  • Receipts generated from the gift record
  • Tools a new volunteer learns quickly

Our Process

  • Step 1: Meet each team separately

    Meet each team separately

We interview fundraising, program and finance staff on their own, because each group uses donor and participant data differently.

  • Step 2: Clean the donor data first

    Clean the donor data first

Duplicates, household links and gift coding are fixed before migration, with your team approving every merge rule.

  • Step 3: Launch outside campaign season

    Launch outside campaign season

Go-live is timed away from year-end giving and major events, and receipts are tested with real gifts.

  • Step 4: Train staff and volunteers

    Train staff and volunteers

Short guides and recorded walkthroughs let volunteers and part-time staff use the tools without constant help.

Why nonprofits work with Aranv

Data cleanup is in scope

We plan time to merge duplicates, fix households and recode gifts, because new software on messy donor data only spreads the mess.

Receipts your auditor accepts

Acknowledgments, benefit values and year-end statements come from the same gift record, with templates reviewed by your finance lead.

Built for part-time users

Volunteers and part-time staff get short screens and plain labels, so a new helper can log hours or check in guests after a brief demo.

Phases that fit grant cycles

Work is split into stages with clear deliverables, so you can fund each one from a specific grant or board approval.

Nonprofit software FAQs

  • How much does nonprofit software development cost?

The drivers are how many systems must connect, how much donor and program history needs cleaning and moving, whether volunteers need a mobile app, and the number of reports funders require. We estimate in phases, so a board can approve one stage at a time or match it to a grant.

  • Should we replace our donor database or build around it?

Keep it if fundraising staff like it and its data is reasonably clean. Build around it when the real gaps are volunteers, programs or reporting. Replacement makes sense when license costs, duplicate records or missing features keep forcing workarounds, and we will tell you which case you are in.

  • Can you connect our giving forms to our accounting system?

Yes. Gifts can post to accounting with the fund, campaign and processor fees split correctly, which cuts month-end reconciliation work. We map your chart of accounts and fund codes first, so restricted money stays separate from general funds.

  • Can volunteers without smartphones use a nonprofit app?

Yes. Shift sign-up works in any browser, reminders can go by text message, and coordinators can enter hours for volunteers who prefer paper. We design for older devices and slow connections from the start.

  • Is it safe to use AI with donor and client data?

It can be, with limits. We use AI services whose terms exclude your data from model training, keep sensitive client details out of prompts where possible and log what each assistant sees. Your privacy policy and funder agreements decide what may be processed.
