Manufacturing Software Development

Order to shipment on one system

Aranv brand pattern

What manufacturing software development includes

Aranv provides manufacturing software development for small and midsize plants and distributors: ERP for manufacturing on Odoo, shop floor and warehouse apps, EDI and supplier integrations, and AI that reads supplier documents and forecasts demand, so orders, stock and production run from one set of numbers.

The core of most projects is the ERP. We often recommend Odoo to small and midsize manufacturers because its manufacturing, inventory, purchasing and accounting apps share one database, and it can be extended where your process is unusual. An Odoo implementation starts with your items, bills of materials, routings and opening stock.

Integration is the second layer. Large retail and distribution customers often require EDI, such as X12 850 purchase orders, 856 ship notices and 810 invoices. Scales, label printers and carriers connect to the ERP too, through our API integration work.

How an order moves through a connected plant

Order to shipment on one system

  1. 01 Order arrives by EDI or portal Customer purchase orders land in the ERP without anyone retyping them.
  2. 02 MRP plans materials and work Bills of materials drive purchase suggestions and work orders for each line.
  3. 03 Shop floor records progress Operators log quantities, scrap and quality checks on tablets at the work center.
  4. 04 Ship, invoice and report Ship notices, invoices and margin reports all come from the same order record.

Most of this runs in standard Odoo apps, with custom modules only where your process differs.

Manufacturing software for small business

Small plants often run on an accounting package, spreadsheets and the memory of a few senior staff. These projects replace that patchwork.

Operators will not use a screen that slows them down. We design shop floor and warehouse apps with large buttons, barcode scanning, few typed fields and clear error messages, then test them at the work center with the people who use them each shift.

What we do

  • Barcode receiving and picking
  • Production counts and scrap logging
  • Quality checklists per operation
  • Large targets for gloved hands
  • Shared tablets in kiosk mode

AI on production and quality records

Production and quality records hold patterns that staff rarely have time to read. We build AI that groups scrap and rework notes by cause, checks certificates of conformance against the purchase order spec, and flags parts in photos for an inspector to confirm. Quality staff make the final call on every part.

What we do

  • Scrap notes grouped by cause
  • Certificate checks against PO specs
  • Photo flags for inspector review
  • Weekly summary of downtime reasons
  • Inspector sign-off on every flag

How we approach a project

AI adds most value where clean data already exists. Demand forecasts built with machine learning use order history and seasonality to suggest reorder points. Document processing reads supplier invoices and certificates of conformance. Assistants inside the ERP answer questions such as which orders are late and why; see AI for ERP and Odoo.

Aranv has an office in Canton, Michigan, close to the Metro Detroit supplier base; see software development in Detroit and Canton. We also work remotely with plants and distributors in other states.

How we work

  • Clean bills of materials first
  • Screens operators can use with gloves
  • One record from order to invoice

Our Process

  • Step 1: Walk the floor

    Walk the floor

We follow one order from quote to shipment, on site or by video, and note every spreadsheet, form and handoff.

  • Step 2: Clean master data

    Clean master data

Items, units of measure, bills of materials and routings are checked before they enter the ERP.

  • Step 3: Pilot one product line

    Pilot one product line

A single line or warehouse runs on the new system first, alongside the old process.

  • Step 4: Cut over and stabilize

    Cut over and stabilize

Remaining lines move after a full stock count, with daily check-ins during the early weeks.

Why Aranv for manufacturers

Bills of materials checked first

We review bills of materials and routings with your production lead before import, since one wrong quantity per unit spreads into purchasing, costing and every work order.

Standard apps before custom code

Standard Odoo apps are used wherever they fit, and custom modules are written only for the steps that set your process apart, which keeps upgrades simpler.

EDI tested with partners

Each EDI document is checked against your trading partner’s test setup or validation rules before live orders flow, which lowers the risk of chargebacks for bad ship notices.

Costs tied to real work

Labor, machine and material costs are set per work center, so margin reports use recorded time and materials rather than last year’s estimate.

Manufacturing software FAQs

  • What is the best ERP for a small manufacturer?

There is no single answer, but Odoo fits many small manufacturers because manufacturing, inventory, purchasing and accounting share one database and it can be customized. Plants with heavy regulatory or engineering demands may need a more specialized system, and we compare options during discovery.

  • Can manufacturing software collect data from our machines?

Often, yes. Newer machines and PLCs may expose data through protocols such as OPC UA or MQTT, and older ones can be read through add-on sensors or gateways. We start with the few readings that matter, such as cycle counts and downtime, rather than collecting everything.

  • Do we need EDI if our customers already email orders?

Not always. If a handful of customers email PDFs, AI document processing can read them into sales orders. If a large retailer or distributor makes EDI a condition of supply, you will need it, and we connect the ERP to an EDI provider or build the mapping directly.

  • How long does an ERP rollout take for a small plant?

It depends on the number of products, how clean your bills of materials are and how many integrations you need. A focused rollout for one site usually runs a few months. Data cleanup is the step most often underestimated, so we start it early.

  • Can we keep our current accounting software?

Yes, if it works for you. We can run manufacturing and inventory in Odoo and pass invoices and journal entries to your accounting package, or move accounting into Odoo later once the operational side is stable.

  • What should we prepare before a first meeting?

A list of your products and how they are built, the systems and spreadsheets you use today, and the problem that costs most, such as late orders or stock errors. Then book a 30-minute conversation with our team from the Contact page.
